The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested the consumer affairs officer of the Polonnaruwa District Secretary’s office. Reports stated that that the officer was arrested after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 15 000 from a shopkeeper in Polonnaruwa. The bribe was asked for by the officer in exchange for not pressing charges on the shopkeeper changing expiration dates on packets of salt. The officer was arrested when receiving the bribe. He is to be presented at the magistrate’s court today.
